SMF MENUS FOR END-USERS

This section assumes that Screen Management Facility's (SMF) system fields are set to their default values.  If an invalid character is entered during menu operation, the terminal beeps and nothing happens on the screen.

MOVING FROM ITEM TO ITEM

After the menu is displayed on the screen, the cursor is positioned at the first item in the list.  Use the arrow keys to move the cursor to the desired selection.

A keyword can also be entered to move the cursor to a selection.  If the first letter of the item is unique in the menu, only one letter needs to be entered to move to that selection.  If more than one letter is required to make the item name unique and it is not the first one in the list, additional letters need to be entered.

When the keyword is being entered (to get to the selected item), the Delete/Rubout key can be used to edit the entry.

MAKING A SELECTION

Once the cursor is positioned on a desired item, press the Return key to make the selection.

HELP

For help, move the cursor to an item and press the Question Mark key (?).  Usually a window that contains a help message is displayed or a help trigger is executed.  When finished with the help function, press the Return key to go back to the menu.  If help is not defined for the item, the terminal beeps.

REFRESHING THE SCREEN

If unwanted characters appear on the screen (such as mail notification messages), the screen can be refreshed.  The Control-R character can be used at any time to redisplay the current screen.
