7. Defining the Main Data Set  (Optional)

After pressing the Return key, the Define Main Data Set (DS) menu will appear (see Figure 7).  The use of these options is not required.  The options include:

  1. Domains - used with a Data Index (DI) to identify key field for sorting/matching

  2. Key Fields - used with Schema Definition (SD) or DS for sorting/matching

  3. Cancel - ignore entries and return to prior menu

  4. Return - accept entries and return to prior menu

DOMAINS

The cursor is positioned on Domains.  This option is valid only with a Data Index (DI).  An error message will appear if this option is selected when the Main data source is not a DI.  Press the Return key and a prompt will appear for the domain.  If the domain name is not known, press the slash key (/).  A list of domains in the DI will be listed in a box below.  Move the cursor to the desired domain name and press Return.  Both boxes will then be removed.  Select Return in the menu and press the Return key when finished.  Control will return to the Setup Data Set (DS) menu.

NOTE:  If a DI was selected and no domain was specified, Reporter will default to the first domain listed in the DI.

KEY FIELDS

This option is valid only for Data Sets (DS) and Schema Definitions (SD).  An error message will appear if this option is selected when the Main data source is not a DS or SD.  A key field is optional for the Main data source.  If the Main data source is used by itself, the Order By option (used for sorting) will default to the field(s) if any are specified.  This does not apply to DBMACH2 DS.  The example uses a DS for the Main data source so this step is skipped.

CANCEL

If the entries made through the Define Main Data Set (DS) menu are wrong or not desired, select Cancel and press the Return key.  The entries will be ignored and control will return to the Setup Data Set menu.

RETURN

For this example, select Return and press the Return key to go back to the Setup Data Set menu.
