Overview of the Reporter Menus

The top level menus are contained in the Reporter main menu.  Help information can be obtained by typing a question mark (?) at any main menu option.  Entering a slash (/) will provide a list of fields or Data Base Library (DBL) objects to choose from for some entries.  Some entry windows have a submenu of: Return - accept entries, go to next screen or back to last screen; Help - provide information on what is needed for entry; Cancel - ignore entries and return to the last screen.

Initialize specify general information for the report

Library

specify the DBL for Reporter to use

Oracle

declare Oracle table processing [requires the proper version of ACCENT R]

Name

specify the name for the report (used to name the CM, PM and SI objects which are generated by Reporter)

Format

specify the general report format; includes report width, headings, summary or detail report option, print or display option

Data

specify data sources for report

Setup Data Set

specify data sources for the report

Add

list a DBL object as a data source [SD, DS, or DI] (after specifying a data source, the return option within the entry window sends control to the Define Main/Auxiliary Data Set (DS) menu)

Define Main/ Auxiliary Data Set

these two menus are nearly identical; the titles and Criteria (not on auxiliary menu) are the only differences; the Setup Data Set/Add menu decides which menu to invoke depending on the position that a data source is entered (as main on the first line/auxiliary if not first line).

Domains

use with Data Indexes (DI) to identify a key field for sorting matching

Key Fields

use with DS's or Schema Definitions (SD) for matching

Cancel

ignore entries and returns to Setup DS menu

Return

accept entries and returns to the Setup DS menu

Modify

(the same as the Define Main/Auxiliary DS menu)

Delete

remove a data source from the report

Return

return control to the Initialize menu

Order By

select sorting options for run time [not designed for DBMACH2 DS's]

Where

select additional condition options for run time

Return

return control to Reporter's main menu

Design

piece report elements together

Add

provide an entry screen for the report element

Modify

display a report element list to modify then provides the entry screen to make the alterations

Delete

only display a report element list to delete

Field

display a field from a specified data source

Expression

display a field that contains the results of an arithmetic operation

Constant

display a field with a constant value

Code Segment

use a pre-written code segment that describes a field

Return

return control to the Design menu

Control Field

specify the field(s) where a change in value causes a control break for subtotals to be printed

View

display the report layout

Return

return control to Reporter's main menu

Save

generate an executable Process Module (PM) to run the report, a Command Module (CM) to set up the ACCENT R environment for the report and to invoke the PM outside of Reporter), a System Information (SI) file with extension RD which contains the report definition

Run

execute the PM; the report will be displayed on the screen or written to an output file with a REP extension depending on report format
